CIO: Chief Innovation Officer

Turn emerging technologies and institutional needs into disciplined experiments, partnerships and scalable operating capabilities.

Role mandate

Build the capability for the era ahead.

This team member will combine subject-matter depth, sound judgment and disciplined execution to move the mission from architecture to measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Innovation workstream for Chief Innovation Officer and deliver measurable technical or operating outcomes.
  • Set the strategy, operating priorities and measurable outcomes for the function.
  • Recruit, guide and coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Establish governance, risk controls, reporting and executive decision practices.

Required qualifications

  • Senior leadership experience in a technically complex or regulated organization.
  • A record of converting long-range strategy into funded, measurable execution.
  • Strong communication skills across boards, investors, engineers, customers and institutions.

Preferred experience

  • Experience building a new function, business unit or company from an early stage.
  • Knowledge of AI, quantum, cybersecurity, data infrastructure or aerospace programs.

Operational tools used in the role

Chief positions are evaluated on practical command of the operating systems, evidence and decision tools used to run the function—not on performing the staff engineer's daily calculations.

  • Technology radar, TRL/maturity assessments, experiment registry, patent landscape and research-partner pipeline.
  • Stage-gate portfolio, hypothesis/evidence logs, prototype budgets, test results and commercialization scorecards.
  • Market intelligence, strategic partnership, risk and executive decision dashboards.

The hiring sequence will follow operating milestones and project requirements. The position may begin through advisory, consulting or project-based work before moving into a full-time role.
