Data Center & Edge Infrastructure Architect
Plan efficient quantum-focused data centers and edge-computing environments across compute, power, cooling, networking, resilience and operational security.
Role mandate
Build the capability for the era ahead.
This team member will combine subject-matter depth, sound judgment and disciplined execution to move the mission from architecture to measurable results.
Responsibilities
- Own the Infrastructure workstream for Data Center & Edge Infrastructure Architect and deliver measurable technical or operating outcomes.
- Define resilient compute, storage, networking, power, cooling and security architectures.
- Translate enterprise requirements into phased modernization roadmaps and technical standards.
- Measure capacity, reliability, cost, risk and operational readiness.
Required qualifications
- Experience designing or operating enterprise, data-center, cloud, edge or network infrastructure.
- Strong systems-architecture skills across hardware, software, security and operations.
- Ability to lead requirements, design reviews and implementation planning.
Preferred experience
- Experience with critical infrastructure, high-availability operations or quantum-ready modernization.
- Relevant architecture, networking, cloud or security certifications.
Scientific and technical requirements
Physics, mathematics and engineering foundations
- Electrical power, heat transfer, fluid flow, reliability engineering, queueing/capacity theory and network performance.
- Distributed systems, fault domains, storage consistency, high availability and cyber-physical infrastructure operations.
Mathematics and working equations
- PUE = total facility energy / IT equipment energy; track partial-load behavior and seasonal conditions.
- Thermal load Q̇ = ṁcpΔT for air/liquid loops; conductive heat Q̇ = kAΔT/L.
- Availability A = MTBF/(MTBF + MTTR); capacity models use utilization, arrival rate and service time with N+1 or 2N fault margins.
- Network delay = propagation + transmission + processing + queueing; validate oversubscription and east-west traffic assumptions.
Hardware, flight and infrastructure components
- UPS, switchgear, generators, rack PDUs, busway, liquid/air cooling, heat exchangers, pumps, containment and environmental sensors.
- Compute nodes, accelerators, storage, top-of-rack/spine switching, optical transceivers, timing, fire suppression and physical security.
Software, laboratory and analysis tools
- DCIM, BMS/SCADA, CFD and power-system modeling; network telemetry, packet analysis, infrastructure-as-code and observability platforms.
- Thermal cameras, power-quality analyzers, flow/pressure instrumentation, optical test sets and load banks.
Verification and mission skills
- Validate failover, ride-through, black-start, cooling loss, network partition, backup restore, cyber recovery and maintenance bypass.
- Maintain capacity, power, cooling, cabling, fault-domain and dependency models tied to measured operating data.
