Mission Operations · Mission Operations
Mission Operations Engineer
Create flight procedures, command plans and anomaly responses for launch, commissioning and continuous constellation operations.
Role mandate
Build the capability for the era ahead.
This team member will combine subject-matter depth, sound judgment and disciplined execution to move the mission from architecture to measurable results.
Responsibilities
- Own the Mission Operations workstream for Mission Operations Engineer and deliver measurable technical or operating outcomes.
- Design and operate the command, telemetry, network and workflow systems supporting continuous missions.
- Develop procedures, automation, monitoring and anomaly-response playbooks.
- Protect command authority, data integrity and service availability.
Required qualifications
- Experience with ground systems, TT&C, mission control, network operations or satellite operations.
- Strong operational judgment, troubleshooting ability and procedural discipline.
- Ability to support readiness exercises and time-sensitive incident response.
Preferred experience
- Experience with constellation operations, secure command systems or autonomous operations.
- Familiarity with ground-station scheduling and customer data delivery.
Scientific and technical requirements
Physics, mathematics and engineering foundations
- Space communications, orbit/attitude products, distributed systems, network reliability, human factors and operational risk.
- Probability, queueing, time synchronization, signal detection and anomaly trending.
Mathematics and working equations
- Use link-budget C/N0 and Eb/N0 margins for command and telemetry availability in nominal and degraded conditions.
- Ranging converts timing/phase observables to distance; state estimation combines measurements and dynamic propagation.
- Service availability A = MTBF/(MTBF + MTTR); command-path designs must include recovery-time and loss-of-contact budgets.
Hardware, flight and infrastructure components
- Ground antenna/optical station, RF/optical front end, modem, timing, tracking mount, mission network and secure command gateway.
- Mission-control system, telemetry archive, procedure/automation engine, flight-dynamics service, scheduler and customer data-delivery interface.
Software, laboratory and analysis tools
- Mission-control and ground-station consoles, CCSDS packet tools, network monitoring, time-series dashboards, GMAT/STK and secure procedure repositories.
Verification and mission skills
- Run end-to-end mission rehearsals for launch, commissioning, handover, safe mode, loss of contact, bad telemetry, unauthorized command and ground-site outage.
Authoritative technical references
The hiring sequence will follow operating milestones and project requirements. The position may begin through advisory, consulting or project-based work before moving into a full-time role.
