Space Security · Space Security
Space Cybersecurity Engineer
Secure flight software, command links, ground systems, supply chains and cryptographic operations against cyber and quantum threats.
Role mandate
Build the capability for the era ahead.
This team member will combine subject-matter depth, sound judgment and disciplined execution to move the mission from architecture to measurable results.
Responsibilities
- Own the Space Security workstream for Space Cybersecurity Engineer and deliver measurable technical or operating outcomes.
- Identify regulatory, security and operational exposure across technology and mission lifecycles.
- Design controls, evidence and governance that can withstand customer and institutional review.
- Coordinate remediation, licensing or compliance work across technical and executive teams.
Required qualifications
- Relevant experience in cybersecurity, compliance, law, spectrum policy, risk or mission assurance.
- Ability to interpret requirements and convert them into practical technical and operating controls.
- Clear written judgment and disciplined documentation.
Preferred experience
- Experience with post-quantum security, space regulation, critical infrastructure or government programs.
- Relevant professional certification, license or advanced degree.
Scientific and technical requirements
Physics, mathematics and engineering foundations
- Applied cryptography, network protocols, secure boot, trusted computing, identity, threat modeling and attack-surface analysis.
- Discrete mathematics, probability and statistics for detection performance, risk estimation and cryptographic assurance.
Mathematics and working equations
- Risk exposure can be tracked as likelihood × consequence, with uncertainty and mission phase stated rather than hidden in a single score.
- Detection performance uses precision = TP/(TP+FP), recall = TP/(TP+FN) and time-to-detect/time-to-contain.
- Availability A = MTBF/(MTBF + MTTR); security controls must not break command availability or safe-mode recovery.
Hardware, flight and infrastructure components
- Secure element or TPM, HSM/KMS, hardware root of trust, secure boot chain, signed firmware, protected TT&C gateway and isolated operations network.
- Firewalls, data diodes where appropriate, authenticated time, intrusion detection, immutable logging and recovery media.
Software, laboratory and analysis tools
- Threat-modeling and attack-tree tools, SBOM/SCA, SAST/DAST, fuzzers, packet analyzers, SIEM, EDR and controlled penetration-test environments.
- Cryptographic inventory, certificate/HSM consoles, incident-response platforms and configuration-compliance scanners.
Verification and mission skills
- Exercise loss of trust, replay, spoofing, jamming, supply-chain compromise, credential loss and recovery from corrupted flight/ground software.
- Prove least privilege, separation of duties, update authenticity, command authorization, logging completeness and incident recovery.
Authoritative technical references
The hiring sequence will follow operating milestones and project requirements. The position may begin through advisory, consulting or project-based work before moving into a full-time role.
